Strautmann Hopkins Limited was originally founded in 1983 when John Hopkins imported the first Strautmann loader wagons to New Zealand.
John had seen the Strautmann machines while on a Nuffield Scholarship in Europe, and was impressed with their strength and reliability compared to other loader wagons at the time.
He was initially joined by eldest son Ian Hopkins and together they ran a large silage contracting business in the Manawatu and started the Strautmann Hopkins business throughout NZ. 10 years later, John’s youngest son Andrew Hopkins took over the Strautmann business and continued to develop the business further.
In 2023 Ian Hopkins, Shelley Dew-Hopkins and Conor Hopkins purchased Strautmann Hopkins and are continuing to grow the business in New Zealand with service agents and a dealer network.
Over time the Hopkins family have continued to strengthen their relationship with the German manufacturer and have worked together to build up the Strautmann brand in NZ to what it is today – a brand nationally recognised for its quality and service.
